Dr. George Cobb is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Toxicology at Texas Tech University. He also serves as the Division Leader for Environmental Health and Toxicology within The Institute of Environmental and Human Health. Dr. Cobb’s research encompasses chemical transport, chemical transformation, and toxicant uptake by biota. Two major thrusts of current research effort are sensor development for rapid detection of trace contaminants and non-lethal approaches to evaluate persistent organic pollutant and metal exposure. Recently non-lethal work involved multiple metal exposures in rodents and birds at Superfund sites and validation of a non-lethal technique to determine mercury exposure in wildlife. His group is also developing near-real-time sensors for trace concentrations of airborne cholinergic chemicals. Dr. Cobb has published 45 peer reviewed articles and currently serves as a reviewer for 9 Journals. He often serves as an invited participant with the US EPA FIFRA Science Advisory Panel. To date, 15 students have received advanced degrees in Dr. Cobb’s research group. Degrees conferred to these alumni include: chemistry, environmental toxicology, environmental engineering, mathematics, and biological sciences. |
